چکیده

The influence of the octupole deformation on the structure of high-K isomeric states in the region of heavy even-even actinide nuclei is studied through a reflection asymmetric deformed shell model (DSM). Two-quasiparticle states with high-K values are constructed by taking into account the pairing effect through a DSM+BCS procedure with constant pairing interaction. The behaviour of two-quasiparticle energies and magnetic dipole moments of Kπ = 6+, 6− and 8− configurations, applicable to mass numbers in the range A = 234 − 252, was examined over a wide range of quadrupole and octupole deformations. A pronounced sensitivity of the magnetic moments to the octupole deformation is found. The result suggests a possibly important role for high-K isomers in determining the degree of octupole deformation in heavy actinide nuclei. keywords: heavy nucleus, octupole shape, dipole moment *Corresponding author: [email protected]; phone: +44-1483-686807; fax: +44-1483-686781

Magnetic moments of K isomers as indicators of octupole collectivity

The relation between the quadrupole-octupole deformation and the structure of high-K isomers in heavy even-even nuclei is studied through a reflection asymmetric deformed shell model including a BCS procedure with constant pairing interaction. Two-quasiparticle states with Kπ = 4−, 5−, 6−, 6 and 7− are considered in the region of actinide nuclei (U, Pu and Cm) and rare-earth nuclei (Nd, Sm and ...

Review of metastable states in heavy nuclei.

The structure of nuclear isomeric states is reviewed in the context of their role in contemporary nuclear physics research. Emphasis is given to high-spin isomers in heavy nuclei, with [Formula: see text]. The possibility to exploit isomers to study some of the most exotic nuclei is a recurring theme. In spherical nuclei, the role of octupole collectivity is discussed in detail, while in deform...

Nuclear collective motion with a coherent coupling interaction between quadrupole and octupole modes

A collective Hamiltonian for the rotation–vibration motion of nuclei is considered, in which the axial quadrupole and octupole degrees of freedom are coupled through the centrifugal interaction. The potential of the system depends on the two deformation variables β2 and β3. The system is considered to oscillate between positive and negative β3-values, by rounding an infinite potential core in t...

2 00 3 Octupole response and stability of spherical shape in heavy nuclei

The isoscalar octupole response of a heavy spherical nucleus is analyzed in a semiclassical model based on the linearized Vlasov equation. The octupole strength function is evaluated with different degrees of approximation. The zero-order fixed-surface response displays a remarkable concentration of strength in the 1h̄ω and 3h̄ω regions, in excellent agreement with the quantum single-particle res...

Effects of high order deformation on superheavy high-K isomers

Using, for the first time, configuration-constrained potential-energy-surface calculations with the inclusion of β6 deformation, we find remarkable effects of the high order deformation on the high-K isomers in No, the focus of recent spectroscopy experiments on superheavy nuclei. For shapes with multipolarity six, the isomers are more tightly bound and, microscopically, have enhanced deformed ...
